What is
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy (OMT)?
Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, commonly called Myofunctional Therapy, is the process by which new neuromuscular connections are created to restore proper nasal breathing and function to the muscles of the face, mouth, and airway. Correcting the muscle function for the facial and oral structures can improve sleep quality, minimize sleep disordered breathing, decrease chronic pain of the head and neck as well as decrease chronic migraines and TMJ pain.
It's like physical therapy for the face and mouth.

Tongue tie (Ankyloglossia) is a physical restriction of the tongue that affects function, mobility and rest position. This mild midline defect adversely affects dental and facial growth in children. A restricted tongue may create an obstructed airway. When left untreated, tongue tie can lead to chronic headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, and more.
Sleep Apnea and Snoring are the most widely recognized conditions within the broader category of Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB). Other conditions include restless leg syndrome, periodic limb movement, and parasomnias ( e.g. night terrors, sleep walking, sleep paralysis, etc.). It is thought that approximately 90 MILLION Americans are affected by SDB.
Mouth Breathing is a dysfunctional behavior. It is neither healthy nor normal. Mouth breathing causes chronic dryness of oral tissues. This dryness leads to inflammation of the oropharynx, tonsils, and gingiva. It increases tooth decay and causes bad breath.
